Book Review- Faithful Giving: The Heart of Planned Gifts

Here’s a recently released book on planned giving from a multifaith perspective.

I recently got my copy of James W. Murphy’s new book Faithful Giving: The Heart of Planned Gifts. It’s a book about helping people be generous through their wills and other means of planned giving. I so appreciate his multifaith perspective. Murphy is Episcopalian and the book includes writers and case studies from a variety of faith traditions including Muslim and Sikh.

My favourite quote so far is from page 112,

“If you do not make people aware of all the ways that they can make a planned gift to your cherished organizations, other charities (especially large secular ones) will fill that gap…”

I haven’t read the book in its entirety yet but already my copy has orange highlights and comments like “Preach!” in the margins.

I’m part of an interfaith fundraising trio - Jew, Christian, Muslim - and I’ve learned so much from my faithful colleagues. We are presenting next week at a secular fundraising conference and I’m so glad there are resources that look at fundraising from an inclusive perspective
