Livestreaming the Offering

If you can’t pass the plate, you can still celebrate the offering during a livestream or virtual worship service. Start with gratitude to God, the giver of every good thing.

Thank God for the faithful givers at your church.

Thank everyone who mailed a cheque to the church.

Thank pre-authorized givers who contributed directly from their bank account.

Thank people who emailed money from their bank account to the church account.

Thank people who gave through the church website or through the CanadaHelps website - see my previous post where I talked about Online giving for Offline churches.

Giving is a spiritual discipline like prayer. Prayer at your church might look different right now and you’ve had to explain to people how to gather virtually. Giving looks different too: the offering is an appropriate moment to explain all the ways people can financially contribute to the church.

Share stories.

Like every other Sunday, the offering is a time to share stories of the work God is doing through your congregation. Pastoral care moments, prayer times, grocery deliveries - tell a story of ministry from the life of your church.

I’m grateful for the creativity and resourcefulness on display at so many churches. Blessings as we navigate new ways of worshiping and new ways of giving.
